The Application Process is a Discernment Process. Because of the programs smaller and more personal size, and the many and varied ministries and geographic opportunities available, CMC is able to offer applicants a fuller, truer discernment process. It matches missioner needs, desires and skills with the needs of populations served. CMC applicants come in all shapes and sizes students looking to serve after graduation, single professionals seeking a more meaningful work experience, retirees who want to give back and perhaps, experience a different culture, married couples and sisters of other religious congregations called to serve in Cabrinian ministries. A Partnership in Service to the Worlds Neediest Populations. Once accepted, those who choose to serve through CMC live in community with and work alongside sisters from the congregation that founded the CMC program the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart (MSCs). Partnering with MSCs in this way gives missioners the opportunity to participate with those who have dedicated their lives in service to the worlds neediest populations. St. Frances Xavier Cabrini founded the MSC congregation in response to her own call to mission as a young girl in the Lombardy region of Italy in the late 19th century. To this day, MSCs continue to serve those in need on 6 continents and in 16 countries around the world. Since CMCs inception in 1990, over 100 CMC missioners have served alongside MSC counterparts. Strong Missioner Support. Missioners begin their service year by setting spiritual, personal and professional goals for themselves. Members of the CMC staff, MSC partners and others involved in the missioners ministry strive to support missioners in their journey to move toward their goals. In addition, missioners are encouraged to participate in spiritual direction throughout their service experience. This helps them to integrate their faith life more fully with their everyday service life. Former CMC Missioners are Still on Mission. The experiences of former missioners continue to shape their professions and lives far after their time with CMC. CMC formers are doctors, teachers, social workers, journalists, school administrators, mothers and fathers raising families. Others are attorneys, nurses, accountants, ministers in parishes and retirees. One former missioner started a Catholic worker house, another works for the Foreign Service in Africa and others have responded to the call to religious life. All continue to be on mission. A Solid CMC Network. An organization is only as strong as its members and those that support its mission. The entire CMC network current and former missioners, the Missionary Sisters, staff and volunteers, and friends that offer their prayers and financial support have been consistent and generous in their contributions to maintaining a strong program. These distinguishing factors make it clear to me why Cabrini Mission Corps is so special and why it is a privilege to participate in making the Cabrini Mission Corps program even stronger. I am grateful for support from the Missionary Sisters and CMC friends and look forward to doing my best to see that the CMC program lives out Mother Cabrinis desire to bring Christs love to the world as fully as possible.
